12.10.14 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA - Temple junior Alyssa Drachslin has been honored for her work on and off the court, being named to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Drachslin was the starting libero on the 24-8 Temple volleyball team. A political science major, she carries a 3.94 GPA and serves as the president of Temple's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. An Honors College student, Drachslin has won several campus academic awards, including making the Dean's list, earning the 2014 Temple Trustee Award, and twice being named an Owl Club Academic Award winner.

On the court, Drachslin led the Owls in digs this season, including recording the 1,000th of her career. She averaged 4.66 digs per game and racked up double-digit dig totals in all 20 conference matches for Temple this season. A two-time American Weekly Honor Roll selection, Drachslin also earned MVP honors at the Temple Invitational.

Drachslin becomes the first Academic All-Area selection for Temple volleyball since Jackie Morrison, who was honored in 2009.

The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball team was made up of Drachslin, Katrina Pisch (Eastern), Keri Godbe (Haverford), Madison Heppe (Swarthmore), Olivia Rowland (Rutgers-Camden), Regina Trabosh (Chestnut Hill), and Jennifer Whelan (La Salle). Pisch, a senior, was named Performer of the Year, after a season that saw her garner first-team All-America honors, as well as Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades.

Academic All-Area honorees must be at least in their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better.
