Women's Basketball Plays Monday Morning at Villanova

Temple snapped a four-game skid with a 30-point win on the road at Howard on Thursday evening. The Owls moved to 4-7 overall with the 78-48 victory. Temple shot a season-best 44.3% from the field on 27-61, and also had a season-best performance on the line, making 22 of 26 free throws to shoot 84.6%.Â
For the season, sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald leads the Owls with 12.7 points per game, while also handing out 3.0 assists per game. Freshman Tanaya Atkinson averages 11.9 points and 6.5 points per outing, while senior Tyonna Williams scores 10.5 points per game and dishes out a team-best 3.8 assists per contest. Freshman Alliya Butts is averaging 9.6 points per game and has a team-leading 20 steals. Junior Erica Covile helps out on both ends of the court, with 9.0 points and 7.9 boards per game.
Villanova is coming off a 72-49 loss to Sacred Heart on Saturday night. In the loss, Leer led the Wildcats with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range, while Coyer added 10 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Kendall Burton grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for Villanova.
Coyer leads the Wildcats with 11.9 points and 3.5 assists per game. Emily Leer also chips in on offense with 9.5 points per game, with Villanova scoring 54.2 points per contest. Lauren Burford averages 8.8 points per game and is shooting 93% from the free throw line. On the boards, Taylor Holeman pulls down 5.9 rebounds per game while Kavunaa Edwards averages 5.1 per outing.Â
As Philadelphia Big 5 rivals, Temple and Villanova have met 40 times. Villanova leads the all-time series 28-12, including five out of the last six meetings.Â
Last season, the Wildcats came away with a narrow 59-58 win over Temple at McGonigle Hall. Villanova led by as many as seven in the second half, before the Owls rallied to take a one-point lead on a lay-up from Tyonna Williams with 22 seconds to play. Villanova then got a bucket from Taylor Holeman with nine seconds to play, and a last-ditch three from Temple fell short, giving Villanova the win.Â
Temple's last win against Villanova came on December 19, 2010, when the Owls won on the road, 55-43.
