NEW YORK - In the final meet before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, numerous Temple athletes earned personal bests at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games on Friday, Feb. 14. The Owls were originally scheduled to compete at the Iowa State Classic on both Friday and Saturday, but much of the team went to New York instead due to flight cancellations.

Some team members did not travel to New York, and will still be competing just on day two of the Iowa State Classic.

Freshman Kenya Gaston was a winner for Temple at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games, taking first in the 400m with a personal-best and ECAC-qualifying time of 56.88. Junior Hollis Coleman was close behind, taking third in a personal-best time of 57.66.

In the 60m, freshman Bionca St. Fleur took fourth place with a personal best time of 7.86, and she later went on to take second place in the long jump with a personal best mark of 5.65m. Two teammates of St. Fleur's took third and fourth in the long jump, with junior Kiersten LaRoche finishing third (5.58m) and sophomore Imani Shell taking fourth with a personal-best mark of 5.58m. For LaRoche, it was a strong return to competition following an injury.

Also returning after being sidelined was junior Jenna Dubrow, who placed third in the mile with a time of 5:11.84.

Junior Kaitlyn McSurdy placed fourth in the 500m with a personal-best time of 1:19.37, and sophomore Demeshia Davis took third place in the 200m with a season-best time of 25.22.

Three Owls earned personal-bests in the 3000m, led by sophomore Janie Augustyn in a time of 11:12.57. Freshman Megan Schneider ran a personal-best time of 11:17.83, and freshman Maria Papacostas finished in a personal-best time of 11:22.13.

To cap off an already successful day, the Owls' 4x400m relay team of Gaston, Coleman, McSurdy and Davis placed third in an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:52.54.
