Women's Gymnastics Beats Towson for First Time in History

TOWSON, Md. – Temple University women's gymnastics beat Towson for the first time in school history and captured the 28th annual Shelli Calloway Memorial Towson University Invitational at SECU Arena on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Reagan Olivieri won the all-around competition with a 38.75 score.
Temple (192.325) edged Cornell (191.925), Towson (189.375) and Ursinus (183.825) to win the title. The Owls have now placed first in three straight meets, racking up 10 wins in the process. Temple has defeated Cornell and Ursinus twice in the 10 game-winning streak.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead by earning a 48.025 score on beam. Oliveri took first place on beam in the meet with a score of 9.75. Sylvie Borschel was fifth with 9.65.
When Temple followed that with a 48.400 on floor, the Owls owned nearly a one-point lead at the midway point of the meet. Jasmine Johnson placed first on the event with an electrifying routine that earned her a 9.775. Lauren Capone and Oliveri tied for fouth with a 9.7.
Temple extended its lead with a 48.125 vault score before closing out the meet with a 47.775 score on bars. Capone once again placed fourth, this time on vault with a 9.675. Oliveri placed second on bars with a 9.775, and Victoria Reggiani tied for fourth with a 9.7.
Briana Odom placed third in the all-around with a score of 38.225.
Temple's team score of 192.325 is the highest team score of the 2014 season, topping last week's score of 191.25 at Penn. The Owls have improved their team score in four straight meets now.
The Owls return to action next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Rutgers in a meet with Ursinus and Penn State also participating.
