Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to Stony Brook

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Temple men's tennis team continued its rough start to the 2014 spring season, dropping a 6-1 match to Stony Brook on Friday, February 21. The Owls played the Seawolves at Lehigh.
Stony Brook earned the doubles point with wins at the first and second flights, both by a score of 8-6, to take a 1-0 lead. Hicham Belkssir and Nicolas Paulus were 8-6 victors at No. 3.
In singles play, Kristian Marquart was the lone TU winner, picking up a 7-6(5), 6-3, victory at No. 3. Two other matches went to three sets, but Stony Brook came out victorious in both. Belkssir bounced back from a 6-4 first set loss to defeat Jose Morales in the second set at No. 4. Morales bested him, though, with a 6-1 third set win.
At No. 5, Filip Stipcic turned a 6-1 first set loss into a 6-3 second set victory, but Seawolve Tyler Hoffman won the match with an 11-9 decision in the deciding third.
The Owls host Fordham at 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, for their final home match until April. The match will be held at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center.
