Owls' Men's Tennis Gets First Win of Season with 5-1 Defeat of Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – Five of six Temple men's tennis players won at singles, leading the Owls' squad to its first win of the 2014 season with a 5-1 victory against Fordham on Sunday, February 23. The match was held at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center and the teams only played singles.
Kristian Marquart got the Cherry & White on the board with a 6-1, 6-0, decision at the fourth flight, establishing a 1-0 lead. The Rams responded with their only point with a three-set win at No. 2.
Filip Stipcic gave TU the lead again with his first collegiate victory, defeating Maz Peara, 6-1, 6-3, at the fifth flight. The Owls went on to win the rest of the matches for the victory.
"The guys have been playing hard all year, and I knew it was just a matter of time before we got that first win," said head coach Steve Mauro. "I'm really happy with the way they fought and the enthusiasm on the court today."
Temple next heads to Hampton for a 12 p.m. match on Saturday, March 1.
