Women’s Basketball Hosts USF on Saturday

THIS WEEK
After a week off, Temple hosts USF on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Liacouras Center. The American Digital Network will televise the game live online with John Rooke calling the action and Tara Petrolino providing analysis. The Owls will hold a post-game picture and autograph session for fans on the court.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under sixth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, stand 12-13 overall and 6-8 in American Athletic Conference play after a 55-53 loss to Cincinnati on Feb. 15.
After 25 games, freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) is the Owls' leading scorer with 12.0 points and 4.0 assists per game. Senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) follows with 10.8 ppg and a team-best 7.8 rpg. Senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.) adds 9.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg. Junior Tyonna Williams (Fort Washington, Md.) adds 9.4 points and a Conference-best .882 shooting from the free throw line. Junior Rateska Brown (Alvin, S.C.) comes off the bench for 8.7 ppg and 2.6 rpg, while sophomore Erica Covile (Detroit, Mich.) averages 8.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
Temple is the only school in the American Athletic Conference to have six scorers among the Top 30 best scorers in the league— the five starters and sixth man.

The Bulls, under the guidance of 14th-year head coach Jose Fernandez, stand 14-11 overall and 9-5 in American play after a 62-43 lwin at Cincinnati on Feb. 19.
Sophomore guard Courtney Williams is the Bulls' top scorer with 15.4 ppg and 7.0 rpg.
Senior guard Inga Orekhova follows with 9.64 ppg and a 4.2 rpg, while sophomore forward Alisia Jenkins adds 9.2 ppg and a team-best 10.0 rpg.
SERIES VS. BULLS
This is the just the second meeting between Temple and USF in women's basketball action. The Bulls lead 1-0.
On January 7, 2014, Temple lost its first American Athletic Conference game on the road with a 64-51 loss USF at the Sun Dome. [complete boxscore on p. 47]
In the first half, TU went ahead 4-0 but that proved to be the Owls' biggest lead of the game. USF utilized a 14-2 run to go ahead by nine, 21-12 with 7:44 to go in the stanza. The Bulls held an eight-point edge at intermission, 36-28.
Temple opened the second half with an 11-4 run to come within three, 40-37. USF responded with a 15-3 run to go ahead, 55-40, and never looked back.
Freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald paced the Owls with 17 points. Senior Natasha Thames added her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Senior Shi-Heria Shipp had 10 points.
Alisia Jenkins led USF with a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards. Inga Orekhova was the only other Bull in double digits with 10 points.
Overall, USF out-rebounded Temple, 47-36. Both teams shot a dismal 36 percent (20-55) from the field. USF's bench out-scored TU's bench, 25-3. The Bulls also took advantage of second opportunities, scoring 15 second-chance points to the Owls' six.

The Owls hit the road for two games. The first stop is longtime regional rival Rutgers on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
