Softball Drops 6-0 Decision to Indiana State in Final Game of TSU Tiger Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Temple softball team closed out the opening weekend of the 2014 season with a 6-0 loss to Indiana State at the TSU Tiger Classic on Sunday, February 23. The Owls finished the weekend with a 2-3 record.

The Cherry & White fell into a 1-0 hole in the top of the first after Brooke Riemenschneider hit an RBI single to drive in Rylee Holland, who had reached on a one-out single earlier. The Sycamores scored three more times over the next four innings to build their lead to 4-0.

Temple's best opportunity came in the fifth inning when the squad recorded three hits and loaded the bases, but Indiana State pitcher Yvette Alvarez got out of it unscathed to maintain the shutout. The ISU offense added two more in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

TU collected just five hits in the contest, including a 2-for-4 performance from Sarah Prezioso. Lacey McKeon, Leah Lucas and Annie Marcopolus each had one hit.

Brooklin White (0-1) went 6.0 innings for Temple in the loss, giving up six hits and four runs, walking three and striking out one. Alvarez (3-1) was the winner on the mound, going the distance while giving up the five hits, walking three and fanning three.

Temple (2-3) will be back in action next weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational, opening the tournament with games against Florida Atlantic (4:30 p.m.) and Kennesaw State (6:45 p.m.) on Friday, February 28.
