PHILADELPHIA - Women's track and field's Margo Britton has been named the Under Armour OwlSports.com Athlete of the Month for the month of January. Over the course of the first month of 2014, Britton placed in the top six in seven of the eight events she competed in, which included three wins.
At the Owls' first meet of the month, the Rutgers Invitational, Britton took first in both the weight throw (15.02m) and the shot put (14.06m). One week later at the Albany Great Dane Classic, she placed third in the weight throw with a personal-record mark of 16.88m, improving upon her ECAC qualifying standard from Rutgers. Britton placed first among collegiate athletes in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.98m, also improving on her ECAC qualifying standard in that event.
On Jan. 24-25 at the Boston University Terrier Classic, Britton took third in the shot put (14.63m), a mark that is well over the ECAC qualifying standard. At the final meet of the month, the Penn State National Open, Britton's ECAC-qualifying throw of 17.73m (58-02.00) in the weight throw earned her sixth place, and the next day she took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 14.62m (47-11.75).
