Baseball Home Games This Weekend Moved to Caravel Academy

PHILADELPHIA - Due to unplayable field conditions at Skip Wilson Field, Temple baseball has adjusted its schedule for the weekend. The games will now be played at Caravel Academy in Delaware as Temple will play Hartford at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday against Saint Peter's.
The first game against Saint Peter's will be a nine inning game with the second being a seven inning game. Live stats and audio will be available for all three games.
Temple comes into the weekend with a 3-8 record, defeating Villanova and Niagara last week for a share of the Big Five Baseball Bash Tournament Championship. Four players have started every game for the Owls this season with seniors leading the way. Redshirt-senior Daniel Dragos has the highest batting average (.351) of the five players and has also drawn nine walks for a .479 on-base percentage. Senior Derek Peterson is hitting .317 so far this season, with eight of his 13 hits going for doubles. Peterson had seven hits overall last weekend in the Big Five Baseball Bash, including five doubles, four runs and four RBI. Senior Rob Amaro, who leads the team with 11 RBI, is hitting .317 and has a slugging percentage of .488.
Senior and co-captain Matt Hockenberry will be the starter for Saturday's game against Hartford. Hockenberry has a 1-0 record with a 3.50 ERA, and has nine strikeouts with only three walks. He has only given up one extra-base hit in 18 innings pitched. Senior Preston Hill will be the starter for the first game of the doubleheader. Hill is coming off a strong start against Villanova, going five and one-thirds innings with four hits, one earned run, three strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Simon Mathews will be the third starter. Redshirt-junior Zach Batchelor has not allowed a run in eight innings of five appearances. Batchelor picked the win last weekend against Villanova, going one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts.
ABOUT HARTFORD…
Hartford comes into this weekend with a 3-6 record. The Hawks started their season with five straight losses against Georgetown and George Mason, but have won three of their past four games. The Hawks will play Villanova on Friday, Temple on Saturday, and La Salle on Sunday.
Brian Hunter is scheduled to be the starting pitcher. Hunter has started three games this season. He has lost all three games with a 5.63 ERA and one complete game. In his 16 innings of work, he has allowed 19 hits, 11 runs (10 earned), and seven walks with 16 strikeouts.
Trey Stover leads the team with a .341 batting average with 15 hits in 44 at-bats. Chris DelDebbio is second with a .333 average, has a triple and homerun, and leads the team in slugging percentage with .472. Three other players are hitting above .300, and four players are tied for the team lead in RBI with seven.

Saint Peter's (2-9) enters this weekend on a five game losing-streak. The Peacocks are coached by Sean Cashman, who was an assistant coach at Temple for two seasons in 2009 and 2010. They started the season with four straight losses before winning defeating Saint Louis and Stony Brook at the Wake Forest Tournament.
John Leiter will be the starter for game one, and Mark Wilson will start the second game. Leiter has started three games this season with an 0-2 record and an ERA of 8.10. In 13.1 innings pitched, he has given up 22 hits, 17 runs (12 earned) and 12 walks with 10 strikeouts. Wilson is 0-2 with two starts and four appearances. He has pitched 14 innings with 16 hits, eight runs, and eight walks allowed while striking out seven batters.
Two hitters for Saint Peter's have a hitting average above .300.
Ariel Ramirez is batting .400 with 16 hits, all of them singles. Jon Kristoffersen is batting .347 with 17 hits, including three doubles and one triple. Rob Moore leads the team in slugging percentage with .472, hitting two doubles, a triple and homerun. Moore is also tied for the team lead in RBI with 9. The Peacocks have two stolen bases this season while opponents have stolen 16 against them.
