Men's Tennis Defeats UMES, 5-0

3.2.14 | Men's Tennis

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Temple men's tennis team won its third-straight match, defeating UMES, 5-0, on Sunday, March 2, at the UMES Tennis Courts. The Owls improve to 3-8 on the year with the win.

TU was at an advantage from the start as the Hawks did not have enough players to fill out the score sheet and could field only two doubles teams. The Cherry & White didn't need the third doubles match, however, making quick work of the first and second doubles teams to take a 1-0 lead. Santiago Canete and Hernan Vasconez teamed up at No. 1 to win 8-0, while Nicolas Paulus and Hicham Belkssir followed suit with a shutout win at No. 2.

In singles play, the Owls dropped just one game out of four matches. Vineet Naran (No. 1), Vasconez (No. 2) and Maros Januvka (No. 4) each blanked their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Canete had a little trouble at the third flight, dropping a game in the first set but ultimately defeating his opponent 6-1 6-0.

Temple returns to action with a home match against Philadelphia University on Thursday, March 6, at 12:15 p.m. at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center.
