Softball Drops Fourth One-Run Contest in Last Five Games

3.2.14 | Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. - In its final game of the USF Under Armour Invitational, the Temple softball team fell 1-0 to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, March 2. It was the fourth one-run loss in five games at the tournament.

It was a very tightly matched contest all the way, with neither team able to cross the plate until the bottom of the seventh. The Mount finally got on the board, and took the win, with back-to-back-to-back singles and a TU error in the seventh to score the only run of the game.

Danni Cummings and Nicole Pagano (5-2) combined for the shutout, keeping the Owls batters off balance the whole game. Cummings allowed just two hits, both to Lacey McKeon, in 3.0 innings of work, striking out two. Pagano came on in relief, going 4.0 innings without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out four. Mahoney's effort was solid for Temple with six hits allowed, two walks and six K's in 6.2 innings of work.

TU (2-8) remains in Florida to play in the Rebel Spring Games from March 4-8. The Cherry & White open play at the tournament with a 10 a.m. game against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, March 4.
