Men's Tennis Defeats Villanova, 4-3

VILLANOVA, Pa. - After dropping the doubles point, the Temple men's tennis team got wins at four of six singles matches enroute to a 4-3 win at Villanova on Sunday morning. The Owls improve to 6-10 overall.
The Wildcats won at the second and third doubles flights to take an early 1-0 lead. The Owls responded, though, with wins at the third and fourth singles flights to jump ahead 2-1. Hicham Belkssir got TU its first point with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ryan Peyton at No. 3. Filip Stipcic followed with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 4.
After the host team breifly tied the match at 2-2 with a win at No. 1, Temple again took a one point lead when Kristian Marquart pulled out a three-set victory at the second flight, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4. The Wildcats once again tied the contest with a win at No. 5.
The match came down to the sixth flight of Santiago Canete against Michael Rosengren. Canete took the first set, 6-3, but Rosengren responded with a 6-4 second set victory. Canete secured the win for Temple with a 6-3 third-set win, giving the Owls the 4-3 decision.
TU will play next at American Athletic Conference foe UConn on Saturday, March 29, at noon.
