Baseball to Host Delaware in Liberty Bell Classic Quarterfinal

TEMPLE NOTES...
Temple baseball is all set to host Delaware at Skip Wilson Field in a quarterfinal game of the Liberty Bell Classic at 3:00 p.m. this Tuesday. Temple will either host La Salle or Villanova on Tuesday, April 1st at 3:00 p.m. depending on who wins in each quarterfinal game. The Owls come into the weekend with a 7-10, 2-1 record, defeating Memphis twice to win their first American Athletic Conference Series. Four players have started every game for the Owls this season with seniors leading the way. Redshirt-senior Daniel Dragos has hit .281 so far this season and drawn ten walks for a .400 on-base percentage. Senior Derek Peterson is hitting .270, with 10 of his 17 hits going for doubles for a slugging percentage of .429. Senior Rob Amaro, who leads the team with 17 RBI, is hitting .281 and has a slugging percentage of .439. Sophmore Jimmy Kerrigan, the only underclassman to start all 17 games, leads the team with a .309 average and is tied for the team lead in hits (17) with Peterson.
A starter for the game has not been determined as of now. Simon Mathews, Phil Gianakos, and Zach White are the only Owls that have started at least one game and didn't start against Memphis. Mathews has started four games, going 0-4 with a 12.15 ERA. Gianakos has started one game in five appearances with a 4.00 ERA with nine innings pitched. White is 0-2 with a 8.44 ERA in five appearances and one start.
ABOUT DELAWARE…
Delaware enters the game with a 10-12 record and have dropped four of its last five games. The Blue Hens have played 14 home games at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md. while their field, Bob Hannah Stadium, is under renovation. They have gone 1-2 in road games to start the season.
Delaware has five players with batting averages above or at .300. Norm Donkin has started all 22 games with a .341 average, team-leading eight doubles, and share of the team lead in RBI (15). Donkin also is six for six on stolen base attempts and has a .549 slugging percentage with three home runs and nine walks, leading the team in all of these categories as well. Joe Giacchino is hitting .307 with six doubles, two triples and one home run. EJ Stoltzfus is only other player to start all 22 games besides Donkin. Stoltzfus has hit .300 on the season with three doubles, 12 runs and nine RBI.
No starter for Delaware has been set as well. Kevin Milley, John Geffre, or Connor Hibbs will likely be the starter. Milley is 0-1 with a 3.75 ERA, pitching 12 innings with six strikeouts, five walks and 16 hits allowed. Geffre is 0-2 with a 3.94 ERA. He allowed seven earned runs off 21 hits and 13 walks while striking out nine batters. Hibbs is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA. Hibbs has started one game in four appearances, walking seven and striking out six.
