Fitzgerald Named American Freshman of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – Temple freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season on Tuesday.
She was also named to the Philadelphia Big 5 women's basketball Honor Roll.
In two road games, the freshman point guard averaged 13.5 ppg. She shot 80 percent 8-of-10) from the line and grabbed five rebounds while dishing out four assists.
At No. 24 Rutgers, Fitzgerald led the Owls with 17 points in 34 minutes of action. She shot 6-of-13 from the field, including a trey.
In the win at UCF, she had 10 second-half points, including shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the line. She grabbed three rebounds and had two assists and a block in the Owls' final road game of the regular season.
In the win over Houston, Fitzgerald led the Owls with 16 points and four assists in 30 minutes of action.
A starter in all 29 games, Fitzgerald is the Owls' leading scorer with 12.6 ppg. She dishes out 4.0 apg. The only freshman to lead her team in scoring in the American, Fitzgerald is just the third Owl in school history to lead the team in scoring as true freshman.
Fitzgerald earned the American Freshman of the Week honor five times this season. She earned the honor on Jan. 27, Dec. 23, Dec. 2, and Nov. 18. This is her fourth time on the Big 5 Honor Roll this season.
Temple (14-15 overall) is the No. 6 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship and will face No. 3 seed USF (18-11 overall) in quarterfinal action on Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m. on ESPN3 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
