Women’s Basketball Ends Season With 72-44 Loss to USF

UNCASVILLE, Conn. –The No. 6 seed Temple women's basketball closed finished the 2013-14 season with a 72-44 loss to No.3 seed USF in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinal round on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Owls closed the season at 14-16 overall, while the Bulls improved to to 19-11 overall and will face #2 seed Louisville in Sunday's second semifinal at 3 p.m. on ESPNU.
In the first half, the teams played within a two-possession game until the 4:39 mark when USF closed the half with a 15-2 run to take a 36-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Owls shot a dismal 19 percent from the field (5-of-27), while the Bulls shot 41 percent (11-of-27) while shooting a perfect 12-for-12 from the line.
In the second half, USF continued to build upon its double-digit lead, going ahead by as many as 31 points, 64-33.
Freshman point guard Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) was the only Owl in double figures with 20 points. The game marked the end of the playing careers for seniors Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) and Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.), who each had four points.
Inga Orekhova led USF with 22 points.
Overall, USF out-rebounded Temple, 49-35. The Bulls shot 42 percent from the field, compared to TU's 24 percent. The Owls went 0-14 from three-point range.
