Game Notes

PHILADELPHIA
– The Temple softball squad will host three games this weekend with American Athletic Conference rival Rutgers at the Temple Softball Stadium. The Owls (11-18, 1-5 AAC) and Scarlet Knights (18-13, 2-4 AAC) square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12, beginning at 12 p.m., before playing a single game on Sunday, April 13, 12 p.m.

The games against Rutgers will mark the first home games of the season for the Cherry & White. The team has had a total of four home dates (seven games) canceled or postponed already this year.

Temple is coming off of a midweek non-conference doubleheader split at Towson on Wednesday, April 9. The squad was shutout 7-0 in that opener behind a perfect game effort from Towson's pitcher, but claimed an exciting nightcap, 6-5, in eight innings.

The Cherry & White are led by senior Sarah Prezioso who is hitting .376 (35-for-93), which is sixth among conference leaders. She leads the team in RBI (17), doubles (5), homeruns (5) and is tied for the team lead in triples with three. The captain has stolen 12 bases this year, giving her 55 for her career, which is a new Temple record.

Sophomore Kelsey Dominik and freshman Amanda Gatt have been the go-to's on the mound. Dominik has made 14 appearances, starting 12 of them and going 7-6 with a squad-best 2.50 ERA, also good for eighth-best in the conference. Gatt has stepped in the circle on 11 occasions, posting a 3-3 record with a 3.32 ERA.

Rutgers comes into the weekend series winners of two of its last three contests. The Scarlet Knights are led offensively by the bat of Jackie Bates, who is hitting a sizzling .418 (41-for-98), which leads the conference. She has clubbed a team-best 13 doubles and 29 RBI, and is tied for the team lead with five homers.

On the mound, Alyssa Landrith paces Rutgers with an 11-5 record and a 2.60 ERA. She has completed 14 of the 16 games she has started and is fourth among conference players with 129 strikeouts on the year.
