Doubles Point Proves Critical in Men's Tennis Win Over Bucknell

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team won its fifth-straight match with a 4-3 decision over Bucknell at TU Pavilion on Saturday, April 12. The Owls improve to 10-10 overall while the Bison fall to 2-14.
In a match where the doubles point proved critical, it was the Cherry & White coming out on top. TU opened play with an 8-2 win at No. 3 from Kristian Marquart and Vineet Naran over Octavio Canibe and Irwin Reibeisen. Hicham Belkssir and Nicolas Paulus wrapped up the point with their 8-2 win at the second flight.
Santiago Canete made it a 2-0 match with his 6-0, 6-3 win at the fifth flight to open singles play, but the Bison responded with wins at the first, fourth and second flights, respectively to take a 3-2 lead. Hernan Vasconez stopped the BU run with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 to knot the match at 3-3. Kristian Marquart finished off the comeback with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3 win at flight three.
"I was really happy with our doubles play today," commented Head Coach Steve Mauro. "That was a critical point for us in the match. It was great to get another win at home and we hope to carry the momentum into tomorrow's final match with Rider."
Temple closes out the regular season with a 12 p.m. match against Rider at TU Pavilion on Sunday, April 13.
