PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a convincing 7-0 win over visiting Rider on Sunday, April 13 at TU Pavilion. The Owls (11-10) finished the spring on a seven-match win streak.
The match was never in doubt from the start as all three doubles teams cruised to victories, including an 8-0 win from the No. 3 duo of Santiago Canete and Maros Januvka.
In singles play, it was straight-set wins all around. Hernan Vasconez did not drop a game on his way to a fourth flight 6-0, 6-0 win over Adam Levi. Hicham Belkssir (No. 2), Vineet Naran (No. 5) and Januvka (No. 6) each lost just one game in their decisions.
"This was a great way to finish the season," commented Head Coach Steve Mauro. "I am really happy with the way we played the second half of the season and am looking forward to the upcoming conference tournament."
The Owls will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship, being hosted by Memphis on April 17-20.
