4.13.14 | Baseball
CAMDEN, N.J. – Temple baseball fell to USF 6-3 in the final game of the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Campbell's Field. The Bulls take two of three games to improve their record to 20-15, 7-5 while Temple drops to 10-18, 5-7.
USF scored four runs in a row from the second to fourth inning to claim a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Temple had the early 1-0 lead after the first inning. With one out Derek Peterson singled through the right side and stole second base. Robert Amaro brought Peterson home with a RBI single through the right side of the infield.
The Owls cut the deficit to one with two runs in the seventh. Bobby Heitzman was able to get to first base on a wild pitch off a strike out. Josh Mason tripled to right center to knock in Heitzman. Reyn Sugai hit a grounder to the shortstop to give Mason enough time to come home for the second run of the inning.
USF increased the lead to three with two insurance runs in the eighth. Temple had bases loaded with two outs in the eighth in a good position to attempt a comeback for the second day in a row. Bobby Heitzman wasn't able to capitalize though as he struck out looking.
Temple plays its first of four nonconference games on Tuesday at Delaware at 3:00 p.m. The Owls originally were supposed to host the Blue Hens, but had to switch a previous game scheduled away at Delaware to home because Delaware's field was not finished with renovations.
