Men's Crew Earns Two Bronze Medals at SIRA Regatta

OAK RIDGE, TN - Temple Men's Crew fared well at the 46th Annual Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, TN held Saturday, April 19. The Owls JV8 and Novice 4 boats each won bronze medals while the Varsity 8 placed a respectable fourth in the strong field.
The Varsity 8, comprised of Dante Romeo (coxswain), Tom Robbins (stroke), Charles Anderson (seat-7), Brian Reifsnyder (seat-6), Dan Sipzner (seat-5), Fergal Barry (seat-4), Evan Hammond (seat-3), Joshua Kuzo (seat-2) and Pat Woodruff (bow). , finished second to George Washington in its heat. The Owls bested Purdue by eight-tenths of a second for the spot, while the Colonials were five seconds ahead to win the race.
In the finals, GW easily won gold, topping Florida Tech by 1.7 seconds. Virginia picked up the bronze with the Owls 4.7 seconds behind the Cavaliers. Purdue and North Carolina rounded out the Varsity 8 final.
George Washington was also victorious in the JV8, besting Purdue by 3.7 seconds to win gold. Temple, comprised of Truman Levine (coxswain), Conor Murphy (stroke), Ryan Dartnell (seat-7), Bryan Berry (seat-6), Gary Wielgus (seat-5), Zephyr Dippel (seat-4), Stephen Lindeman (seat-3), Hunter Devine (seat-2) and Mario DiCarlo (bow), was a mere one-tenth of a second behind Purdue while topping fourth place Virginia by two seconds. Florida Tech and Virginia B finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Owls' Novice 4, comprised of Kati Jordan Funck (coxswain), Dylan McCreavy (stroke), TJ Kuhar (seat-3) and Joseph Calendo (seat-2), Vittorio Dipentino (bow), finished behind Virginia and Wichita State while edging Duke by two seconds to capture third. North Carolina State and Virginia B rounded out the race.
Temple next competes at Bergen/Kelly Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 26.
