Men's Crew Battles Philadelphia Rivals for the Bergen Cup

PHILADELPHIA- Continuing their strong season, men's crew fared well at the Bergen/Kelly Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill river. The Philadelphia City rowing championship featured the Owls as well as several city rivals including Drexel, Saint Joseph's, Villanova and Philadelphia University.

The Freshman 4+ started things off with a first place finish in its respective race, edging out Drexel, with a time of 6:45.8 The boat included Kati Jordan Funck (coxwain), Dylan McCreavy (stroke), TJ Kuhar (seat-3), Robert Byrne (seat-2), and Vittorio DiPentino (bow).

The Varsity 4+ boat was comprised of Kyle Powell (Coxswain), Nick Matousch (stroke), Joseph Calendo (seat-3), Muhammad Abdulakafarov (seat-2) and Rich Ridgway (bow). The boat took 4th place behind Drexel (A,B) and Villanova, who went on to win the race with a time of 6:46.2

The Varsity 8+ B boat, comprised of Truman Levine (coswain), Tom Robbins (stroke), Pat Woodruff (seat-7), Bryan Berry (seat-6), Gary Wielgus (seat-5), Zephyr Dippel (seat-4), Steve Lindeman (seat-3), Hunter Devine (seat-2) and Mario Dicarlo (bow), fell behind Drexel A in their race, finishing in 2nd place with a time of 6:04.3.
The Bergen Cup final, featuring Varsity 8+ boats, saw the Owls crew, comprised of Dante Romeo (coxswain), Conor Murphy (stroke), Charles Anderson (seat-7), Brian Riefsnyder (seat-6), Dan Sipzner (seat-5), Fergal Barry (seat-4), Evan Hammond (seat-3), Josha Kuzo (seat-2) and Ryan Dartnell (bow), place second behind Drexel with a time of 6:05.8.
The Owls return to the water on May 9th for the annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta.
