ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Temple men's tennis team was down 3-1 and rallied to defeat Navy, 4-3, in a non-conference match Saturday, April 5, at the USNA Tennis Courts.
The Midshipmen won the doubles point, taking all three matches for a 1-0 lead.
The match stood at 3-1 after Navy won matches at the fifth and first flights, and Hernan Vasconez got by his opponent at No. 6, 6-4, 7-5. From there, it was all TU.
Filip Stipcic made it a one-point match with a three-set win at the fourth flight, hanging on to defeat Blake Daniel, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Nicolas Paulus tied things up with his 6-4, 6-2 decision over Austin Jones at No. 2. Kristian Marquart finished the come-from-behind win with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Thomas Pecor at the third flight.
"This was a hard fought win today against a very strong Navy team," said Head Coach Steve Mauro. "It's always difficult when we play Navy, especially on their home court, but the guys stepped up and played extremely well in singles. I'm really happy with their performance today and we seem to be finishing this season very strong."
Temple is 9-10 overall and will compete next with a 1 p.m. match against Bucknell at TU Pavilion on Saturday, April 12.
