PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's second varsity eight captured the bronze medal at the 2014 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday.
The second varsity 8+ boat, comprised of Truman Levine (coswain), Conor Murphy (stroke), Pat Woodruff (seat-7), Bryan Berry (seat-6), Steve Lindeman (seat-5), Zephyr Dippel (seat-4), Gary Wielgus (seat-3), Hunter Devine (seat-2), and Mario DiCarlo (bow), captured third place in its semifinal in 10:59.591 as Drexel (10:55.273) won the event. In the afternoon final, Temple finished third for the bronze medal in a time of 6:47.737. Drexel won gold (6:38.090), while Michigan took the silver (6:41.719).
"The race went well; we had a lot of fight," said sophomore coxswain Levine. "We didn't do as well as we wanted in the semis, but we came out with a vengeance (in the final) in some choppy water. We were focused the whole time."
The varsity 8+, comprised of Dante Romeo (coxswain), Charles Anderson (stroke), Brian Riefsnyder (seat-7), Fergal Barry (seat-6), Dan Sipzner (seat-5), Josha Kuzo (seat-4), Evan Hammond (seat-3), Thomas Robbins (seat-2), and Ryan Dartnell (bow), finished its semifinal in fifth place with a time of 6:07.416. FIT won the race in 5:54.316.
The novice 4+, including Kati Jordan Funck (coxwain), Dylan McCreavy (stroke), TJ Kuhar (seat-3), Robert Byrne (seat-2), and Vittorio DiPentino (bow), took third place in its semifinal in a time of 6:58.959. Oklahoma City won the race in 6:47.197.
Temple men's crew will participate in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta in Camden, N.J., on June 1-2.
