5.20.14 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple baseball starting pitcher Matt Hockenberry was named the Co-Philadelphia Big Five Baseball Pitcher of the Week and earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for his performance in a win against No. 16 Houston last Thursday. Hockenberry shared the honors with Jordan Carter of Saint Joseph's.
Hockenberry pitched six innings to earn a win against Houston. He allowed only three hits and one walk while four strikeouts and zero earned runs. The win was his third in conference play and fifth overall. The win against the Cougars also clinched the sixth seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament for the Owls, which every conference coach predicted not to happen after each one predicted Temple to finish dead last.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against Houston once again in the first game of pool play in the conference tournament. Hockenberry will start for Temple.
