Men's Soccer Faces Lafayette in Scrimmage

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple men's soccer faced Lafayette today at Ambler Sports Complex for its first scrimmage of the preseason. The Owls outscored Lafayette 3-2 in the first half with the second going scoreless.
The three goals for Temple came in the first 20 minutes. Jared Martinelli scored off a pass from Matt Mahoney to opening up the scoring. Olli Tynkkynen blasted a kick just outside the box off a pass from Martinelli to Temple up 2-0. Robert Sagel was fouled in the box on a corner kick and converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0.
The starting lineup consisted of: Sagel, Mahoney, Martinelli, Tynkkynen, Stefan Mueller, Jonah Williams, Willie Chalfant, Brendon Creed, Felipe Liborio, Dinho Zwane and Dan Scheck. Sagel, Mahoney, Martinelli, Mueller, Chalfant and Scheck are returning starters from last season.
After the scrimmage, head coach David MacWilliams and Scheck talked to Owlsports.com about the team's performance today and so far in preseason and their reaction to the preseason conference coaches' poll. The interview can be watched by clicking on the play button on the picture above.
Temple takes on Rider at home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the final scrimmage of preseason.
