Matt Kacyon Named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team
8.27.14 | Men's Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS - Redshirt junior Matt Kacyon has been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for a second year in a row. The award honors student-athletes for their combined efforts in competition and in the classroom.
"We're incredibly excited for Matt and his accomplishments both on and off the track," said coach James Snyder. "Matt's award of Academic All-American is a true testament to what we strive for all our student-athletes to accomplish, which is to be a wonderful athlete on the track or cross country course and a great student in the classroom. Matt has done both of those extremely well here and will continue to do so into his senior year here at Temple."
Kacyon took a redshirt year during last year's cross country season, but was one of the Owls' top performers for outdoor track. He placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the American Athletic Conference Championships, third in the same event at the IC4A Championships, and went on to represent Temple at the NCAA East Region Preliminary.
As a film and media arts major, Kacyon has compiled a GPA of 3.61. To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
