Women's Soccer Faces Rival Saint Joseph's on Friday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer travels across the city to face rival Saint Joseph's on Friday at 5:00 p.m.  The Owls look to continue their winning ways after opening this season with two wins.

Temple defeated Binghamton on the road 2-0 in their season opener last Friday.  Gina DiTaranto scored the first goal for the game-winner off a pass from Shannon SenourKelly Farrell scored an insurance goal two minutes after to seal the victory with Shauni Kerkhoff making four saves in the game for her first shutout of the season.  In the home opener two days later, the Owls dominated play against Mount St. Mary's and won 3-0 behind DiTaranto's two goals.  Alyssa Kirk scored the first goal on a corner kick from the left corner.  Kirk was named the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week after also helping the Owls to allow only five shots on goal for the two games.

Saint Joseph's notes...
 
Saint Joseph's comes in with a record of 1-1, after last weekend's road trip to California. Last Friday, the Hawks picked up a 4-1 win over Pacific, and concluded the trip with a 4-0 Loss at Saint Mary's on Sunday.  

The Hawks return 19 letterwinners, including six starters, from last year's squad that went 7-8-3 overall and tied for ninth in the A-10 at 3-4-1. Additionally, sophomore midfielder Emily Gingrich was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team in a vote of the A-10s coaches. The reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year, Gingrich made an immediate impact in her first season on Hawk Hill as she finished second on the team and led all rookies in scoring tallying seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Starting all 18 games, Gingrich also led the Hawks with 61 shots for the third most in a single season.

The Owls hold a 2-11-3 all-time record against the Hawks. Temple's last victory against St. Joseph's was
 
a 3-2 victory on September 26th 2000.  The teams last matchup was on September 29th, 2012 at Ambler Sports Complex, which resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Hawks.
