SOUTH KENT, CT - Junior Brandon Matthews shot a two-under 142 on the day to lead the Temple men's golf team to a fourth-place showing after the first two rounds of the Hartford Hawk Invitational. Â
The Owls shot a 595 for the two rounds (+19) ad are 14 strokes behind host Hartford, who leads the 19-team event being held at the par-72, 6,992-yard Bull's Bridge Golf Club.
"It is our opening tournament and we left a lot of shots on the course," said Temple head coach Brian Quinn. "Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to turn it around and finish strong."
Matthews, who shot a three-under 69 in the opening round, is three shots back of Hartford's Evan Russell, who leads the 105-player field.  Senior Pat Ross, making his Temple debut after  transferring from Hartford, was next for the Owls, and tied for 14th overall with a five-over 149.Â
Freshman Evan Thornton was one back of Ross with a six-over 150 (t-21st) while senior Matthew Teesdale (154/t43rd) and senior Alec Kissell (161/t-81st) rounded out the field.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
