Men's Cross Country Gets Back on the Course at the Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday
9.24.14 | Men's Cross Country
PHILADELPHIA - The men's cross country team will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University after two weeks of training without competition.Â
The diversity of races has been improved on for both teams by coach James Snyder this season. Many invitationals are made up of 25 or more cross country teams and Snyder felt that adding a race that is similar to the Owl's upcoming conference meet, with a smaller pool of schools, was very important.
"I wanted to compete in this race to give our kids a taste of what our conference meet is going to feel like," said Snyder. "The field size in our conference for men is between 10 to 12 teams so this meet will give our men a chance to run in a race indicative to what we're going to be up against on Oct. 31."
The Owls were last in action at the Big 5 Invitational on Sept. 12 at Belmont Plateau. The top finisher for Temple was junior Matt Kacyon who finished 17th in a time of 19:05.8 to lead the men to a third-place finish. Junior Alex Izewski was not far behind, in 22nd place with a time of 19:21.5.
"Matt and Alex stand a great chance to be up near the front of the race this Saturday, similar to what we are going to expect out of them at the conference meet," said Snyder. "I am really looking forward to competing this weekend in a new area against some of the best teams in the northeast."Â
The men will begin their 8K race at 12:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park.Â
