Men's Tennis Splits Final Match of the Weekend with Navy

ANNAPOLIS, M.D. - The Temple men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Navy Invitational this morning, taking on the host team for the final match of the weekend. After playing two non-scoring matches on the weekend, the Owls crowned four flight champions in singles play and two pairs in doubles play.
Juniors Ondre Cargill, Maros Januvka, and Nicolas Paulus did not drop a match all weekend, each posting undefeated records. Sophomores Vineet Naran and Filip Stipcic were one of two flight champions in doubles play for the Owls at the the No. 2 position after they defeated their opponents 7-5. The other pair to win a doubles flight title were juniors Santiago Canete and Januvka in the No. 4 spot, taking a 6-2 decision.
In singles action against the Midshipmen, Temple had four flight champions in Hernan Vasconez, Paulus, Januvka, and Cargill. Paulus was playing at No. 1 and capped the weekend with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win. Vasconez won the fifth flight after a 6-4, 6-4 match to end the day. Januvka and Cargill each finished an undefeated run at the No. 7 and No. 8 spots with 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 and 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) wins respectively.
"I was extremely happy with the team's perfomance this entire weekend," said head coach Steve Mauro. "I was proud of the stand-out perfomances by Cargill, Januvka, and Paulus who didn't lose a match both days. I am looking forward to our next tournament and hopefully continuing the success I saw this weekend."
Temple continues fall play at the UPenn Invitational the weekend of Sept. 26-28.
