Women's Gymnastics To Host Ursinus This Saturday in First Home Meet of the Season

1.21.15 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's gymnastics hosts Ursinus this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in its first home meet of the 2015 season.

The Owls will look for their first win of the season after facing very good gymnastics programs, including #18 George Washington last weekend.  Temple will also try to use the home meet as a catapult for the rest of the season like they did last year.  At the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational last season, the Owls started a streak of defeating 10 straight opponents when they beat Penn, Ursinus, West Chester and Cornell.  During the streak they improved their score at each meet.

Lauren Capone has competed in all four events in the all-around for the first time in her career.  Capone earned an all-around score of 38.075 in the first meet of the season at Eastern Michigan.  The score is the fourth best of the ECACs so far, with last week's 37.4 ranking fifth.  Michaela Lapent joined Capone on all-around last weekend, garnering a score of 35.025.

Jasmine Johnson made big improvements from the first meet when she got scores of 9.7 on vault and 9.75 on floor at the George Washington Invitational.  Both scores were tops for Temple at the invitational.  The vault score is currently the fourth best in ECACs, and the floor score is third best.

Stephanie Verry was right behind Johnson on both events with her solid scores as well.  In her first competition of the season Verry earned a 9.6 on vault and 9.7 on floor.

Victoria Reggiani has done well on the vault in the two meets, earning a 9.55 last weekend and a 9.525 two weeks ago.

Alexis Arena has specialized in the balance beam this season.  Her routine has gotten her the best score for Temple in both meets with a 9.7 last weekend and 9.75 at Eastern Michigan, the
seventh best score on the event in ECACs.

Kerry Arone has made an immediate impact as a freshman so far this season.    Last weekend she earned a floor score of 9.475 and a 9.65 on bars.
