Alliya Butts Named American Freshman of the Week

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's basketball player Alliya Butts has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for the period ending January 25. The rookie led the Owls to an 83-50 victory over Cincinnati on Tuesday, Temple's only action of the week.

Butts scored a team-high 17 points against the Bearcats, helping Temple move to 5-2 in the American. The rookie rounded out her night with a career-best five assists to go along with four rebounds and a steal, without committing a turnover.

For the season, Butts is second on the Owls in scoring, recording 11.3 points per game. She leads the team in steals with 42 total takeaways, and is third with 43 assists.

Temple is back in action on Tuesday, heading to Orlando to take on UCF at 7 p.m.
