Kiersten LaRoche Wins Pentathlon on First Day of Patriot Games; Breaks School Record

FAIRFAX, VA. - On the first day of the two-day Patriot Games, senior Kiersten LaRoche won the pentathlon for Temple and set a new personal best for the event with 3,671 points overall. This score also broke the pentathlon school record of 3,650 points previously set by LaRoche at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.

LaRoche took first place in three of the five events which included a personal-best pentathlon time in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.91 seconds. Her other first-place marks on the day were in the shot put and long jump.

"This was a great start to the weekend," said head coach Elvis Forde. "For Kiersten to finish the day with a personal best is a testament to her focus and preparation. Hopefully this will give us some momentum heading into tomorrow."

Competition will continue tomorrow morning for the Owls as the opening day just featured the pentathlon and men's heptathlon. The Patriot Games are being held at George Mason University's Field House.
