PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Temple women's basketball player Erica Covile has earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the period ending January 4. The junior averaged a double-double in a pair of wins for the Owls, becoming the program's first ever American Player of Week in the two-year history of the conference.
In addition to the American nod, Covile was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week, as well as a conference Player of the Week selection from CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Covile averaged 22.5 points and 14.0 rebounds as Temple knocked off SMU and Cincinnati. Against SMU, Covile poured in a career-high 24 points and tied a (then) career-best with 13 rebounds, while also adding three steals and a pair of assists. She shot 8-for-15 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range (a career-best) against the Mustangs. Wrapping up the week at Cincinnati, Covile went 9-for-10 from the field, including a perfect 9-for-9 in the second half of a Temple win. She led all players with 21 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, to notch her fourth-straight double-double.
For the week, the Detroit, Mich., native shot 68% from the field and 57.1% from beyond the arc.
Covile is now third on the 7-8 Owls in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game. She leads the team with 9.2 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 20 total steals.
Temple is back in action tonight at the Palestra, taking on Big 5-rival Penn at 7 p.m.
