TULSA, Okla. – The men's tennis team wrapped up a weekend of play at the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
On Saturday, senior Santiago Canete was the only Owl to pick up a win in his first-round set, defeating Kentucky's Jake Stefanik, 6-3, 6-4.
In two hard fought sets, senior Hicham Belkssir fell to conference opponent Chris Patzanovsky of Memphis, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, while senior Nicolas Paulus dropped to San Diego State's Milen Ianakiev, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
Junior Vineet Naran also fell in his opening round set, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Troy's Francisco Yim Kim.
On Sunday, Canete fought hard against Purdue's Ricardo Medinilla but ultimately dropped the set, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).
Belkssir was the only Owl to pick up a win in his consolation set, defeated Eastern Washington's Vuk Vuckovic, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
"It was very tough completion in Tulsa. The guys played really well, but lost a couple of close matches," said head coach Steve Mauro. "The guys represented Temple well and it gave them confidence that they could play against anyone in the country."
The men's team will next travel to the Farnsworth Invitational, hosted by Princeton on October 9-11.
