Men's Soccer Heads to UCF for Midweek Conference Matchup

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer is hitting the road and is set to face conference rival UCF on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The Owls will be looking to log their first conference victory of the season at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex, as well as their first victory against the Knights.
Standing at 7-2-2 on the season, the Owls travel to Orlando after recording a double overtime draw against Delaware and a 0-1 loss to USF last week. Through both matches, the Owls were unable to find the back of the net.
Alex Cagle logged nine saves through the past two matches to only allow one goal in 200 total minutes of play. Cagle now leads the conference in goals against average with a mark of 0.691. He also ranks second in save percentage (0.800) and third in total saves (32). For his efforts in last week's matches, Cagle earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Despite a scoreless week, team leader Jorge Gomez Sanchez still sits high in conference and national rankings. Gomez Sanchez leads the conference in every individual category aside from assists and assists per game. Nationally, Gomez Sanchez leads in game-winning goals with five total. He ranks second in goals per game (1.00), total goals (11), and total points (25). His average 2.27 points per game ranks third among the nation's best.
The Knights are coming off a 1-2 conference loss at SMU on Oct. 2. Team leader Hadji Barry scored the lone goal for the Knights who stand at 3-5-1 for the season. Barry has totaled six goals and two assists for 14 total points through nine matches. He currently ranks second in the conference in points per game (1.56) behind Temple's Gomez Sanchez.
UCF and Temple have only matched up twice and ended both games in a draw. In 2014, the teams each scored a single goal to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
