Men's Soccer Set to Host Memphis for American Athletic Conference Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer returns home this weekend for a two-game homestead beginning with a conference match against Memphis on Saturday. The Owls are on the hunt for their first American Athletic Conference win, currently standing at 0-3 in the conference and 7-3-2 overall. Saturday's match is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. at the Ambler Sports Complex.
The Owls' last match saw an early 1-0 lead over UCF with a goal from freshman Belal Mohamed that held through the entirety of the first half. Three second half goals lifted the Knights over the Owls to a 3-1 victory for UCF.
Goalkeeper Alex Cagle has been dynamic and impressive in goal in his first season as the starting goalkeeper. Despite the three allowed goals against UCF, Cagle logged six saves to boost his season total to 38. He boasts a conference-leading season goals against average of 0.88 and a save percentage of 0.776 that ranks second in the conference.
Team leader Jorge Gomez Sanchez still sits at the top of all overall individual categories in the conference, aside from assists and assists per game, despite not playing in the Owls' last match. Nationally, Gomez Sanchez ranks second in goals per game, points per game, total goals, total points, and game-winning goals.
The Memphis Tigers are coming off a 3-1 loss at SMU to move their conference record to 1-1-1. Overall, the Tigers stand at 2-6-2 with wins over Central Arkansas and UConn. Raul Gonzalez has logged five goals for the Tigers this season and ranks third in the conference for total shots with 32.
Following the Owls' match against Memphis, the Owls return to Ambler on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to face Columbia in a non-conference game.
