NORFOLK, Va. - Riding a four-game win streak, Temple field hockey is the second-seeded team in the BIG EAST Tournament set for Nov. 6-8 at Old Dominion University. The Owls (7-12, 3-2) will play third-seeded Villanova (5-12, 2-3) in a semifinal game on Friday, Nov. 6 at 4:30 p.m. Both semifinals and Sunday's 1 p.m. championship game will be televised by the BIG EAST Digital Network through Fox Sports Go.

Temple's final regular season-game at Villanova on Oct. 31 was make-or-break. The Owls' season would have ended with a loss, but the 3-2 overtime win instead made them the second-seeded of four teams in the league. Temple led 1-0 in the first half, but later had to come from behind in the final 10 minutes to send the game to overtime. Sophomore Maiyah Brown scored with an assist from senior Alyssa Delp in the sixth minute of the extra period to earn the win.

The Owls' current four-game win streak began on Oct. 20 with a 1-0 upset at #12 Old Dominion. Senior Sarah Deck scored on a corner for the Owls in the first half, and senior goalkeeper Haley Mitchell earned the shutout win by making an impressive 10 saves against the Monarchs. She was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Owls to a 3-0 record including that game, with the weekly award being her second of the season.

Four Owls, all seniors, were honored by the BIG EAST when the postseason awards were released on Wednesday. Delp and Deck were named to the BIG EAST First Team, while Mitchell and Tricia Light were named to the BIG EAST Second Team. The conference honor was the second for Delp, who earned second team honors a year ago.

Temple has now earned a conference tournament berth for 13 straight years, with the first 10 of those being in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Last season, the third-seeded Owls beat second-seeded ODU 2-1 in the BIG EAST Semifinals before falling 4-1 to top-seeded UConn in the championship game.

Delp leads Temple with 13 goals this season, which ranks in a tie for third among all players in the BIG EAST. On Oct. 28 it was announced that Delp was one of 38 seniors selected to play in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game on Nov. 21. Mitchell ranks second in the BIG EAST in saves (111) and saves per game (5.84). With 45 goals scored (2.37 goals per game), Temple ranks second among the teams in the BIG EAST Conference. The Owls also rank second in the BIG EAST in goals scored off corners with 13 (0.68 per game).

Temple leads Villanova 11-3 in the all-time series, and has won in each of the last three seasons despite all three games being on the road. The Owls won 3-2 in overtime last Saturday, got a 6-3 victory last season and a 4-1 win in 2013. The Wildcats are led by sophomore forward Francesca Bello, a BIG EAST First Team selection who has scored 10 goals and added five assists. Senior midfielder Kayla Kenney and junior midfielder Kristen Mericle, who have scored five goals apiece, were named to the BIG EAST Second Team.
