Men's Soccer Set for American Athletic Conference Championship Quarterfinal Against UConn

PHILADELPHIA— The sixth-seeded Temple men's soccer team is set to face off against third-seeded UConn in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Owls' match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. at the Huskies' Morrone stadium on Saturday. In the last matchup between the two teams, UConn topped Temple, 2-0, at the Ambler Sports Complex.
The Owls enter the match with an overall regular season record of 10-6-2 and a conference record of 2-6-0. The team earned its 10th win of the season when it defeated Cincinnati on Oct. 24 which marks the sixth 10-win season for head coach David MacWilliams.
In the regular season, the Owls suffered only one loss at the Ambler Sports Complex, logging a home-game record of 7-1-0. The team has posted 97 total points in the regular season, including 31 goals, and ranks second in the conference in both of those categories. The Owls' 35 total assists ranks 12th in the nation.
Jorge Gomez Sanchez has led the Owls through the 2015 campaign. Through 18 matches, Gomez Sanchez has logged 13 goals and five assists for 31 total points. His 13 goals ranks in a tie for fifth in the Temple record books for most goals scored in a single season by one player, and the most goals in a single season since 1997. His 31 points ranks in a tie for sixth.
