12.8.15 | Men's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Matt Kacyon, a film and media arts major, has been named to the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Team. Selected by 30 sports information offices of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, also known as PhillySIDA, the team recognizes student-athletes who athletically excel while contributing to their surrounding community and exceed a 3.20 GPA.

Kacyon has a 3.65 grade-point average, and last year he was named Temple's Male Institutional Scholar Athlete for the American Athletic Conference. He placed eighth at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships to earn all-conference honors for a second year in a row, running a personal-best time of 24:07.56 for the 8K. Kacyon's finish led Temple to its highest-ever finish of fourth at a conference meet.

Also in 2015, Kacyon placed 29th at the 2015 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships and 19th at the 2015 Paul Short Run in a field of 278 runners. Off the field, Kacyon has earned USTFCCA All-Academic honors for the last two years.

Villanova's Patrick Tiernan, the runner-up individually at the 2015 NCAA Championship, was named Performer of the Year. Joining Tiernan and Kacyon on the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team are Saint Joseph's sophomore David Dorsey (Emmitsburg, Md.), Villanova's Rob Denault (Aurora, Ontario), Widener's Stephen Fortin (Goffstown, N.H.), Swarthmore's Mike McConville (Hingham, Mass.), and Penn's Brendan Smith (Fayetteville, N.Y.).
