Volleyball's Drachslin Named Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA - Temple volleyball player Alyssa Drachslin has been honored for her work on and off the court, being named to the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Drachslin, who completed coursework for a degree in Political Science this summer, is currently enrolled in graduate school at Temple. She was the starting libero for the 24-8 Temple volleyball team, which finished second in the American Athletic Conference. She ranked 28th in Division I with 5.02 digs per set, compiling over 1,500 digs in her career. Drachslin owns two of the top-five single season dig totals in Temple history, and recorded double-digit dig totals in 85 career matches, including a streak of 57 in a row.Â
Academically, she finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.90 grade-point average. Drachslin is a two-time Temple Trustee Award (top-10 GPA), two-time Owl Club Academic Award Winner, and a President's Honor Roll member. She was Temple's team captain two years in a row, and was also named the American Athletic Conference's representative on the NCAA Division I National SAAC.
Drachslin, who also won the award last season, was the first Academic All-Area selection for Temple volleyball since Jackie Morrison, who was honored in 2009.
The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball team was made up of Drachslin, Miranda Biondi (Penn State Brandywine), Michelle Chai (Philadelphia University), Emma Pettit (Villanova), Rikki Schlager (Eastern), and Regina Trabosh (Chestnut Hill). Swarthmore College sophomore Sarah Wallace was named the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Volleyball Performer of the Year. Â
Academic All-Area honorees must be at least in their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better.
