Men’s Tennis Takes Down Philadelphia, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA – In their first match in almost two weeks, the men's tennis team defeated Philadelphia, 6-1 on February 13.
Like their women's team did earlier today, the team swept through doubles to take the first point in the match. Santiago Canete and Vineet Naran took the charge at the second flight, defeating Philadelphia's Jacobo Atri and Nail Rachidi, 8-2, while Ondre Cargill and Maros Janukva sealed the point with an 8-3 set against James Pollard and Long Vo.
The team showed the same strength into singles, winning five sets, all in straight victories. Hicham Belkssir took the first singles point at the fourth flight, taking down Pollard in a shutout, 6-0, 6-0. Canete followed behind, easing the Owls into a 3-0 lead after he defeated Nicolas Affolter, 6-2, 6-0.
At the fifth flight, Naran was able to seal a victory for the Owls, as he took a 6-0, 6-2 win against Vo. Cargill took a 6-2,6-1 sixth-flight win over Juan Velosa, while Filip Stipcic rounded out the team's wins at the third flight against Atri, 7-6(2), 6-0.
Philadelphia's lone point came on a battle at the second flight, as Celso de Vera Rehberger defeated Nicolas Paulus, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6).
The Owls (3-3) will be back in action tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. against Wagner College at Upper Dublin Sports Center in Ambler, Pa.
