PHILADELPHIA – The men's tennis team swept their weekend matches, ending with a 5-2 victory over Wagner College on February 14.
Head coach Steve Mauro was very pleased with the way that team came out and competed against a tough opponent.
"Wagner was a good squad but our guys came strong in doubles and continued that into singles," said Mauro. "I was really happy with the way the guys have been practicing and playing. It was a great team effort tonight and great to see the guys pulling for each other."
The men prevailed at doubles, with the pair of Ondre Cargill and Filip Stipcic taking a 6-2 victory at the third flight. Right behind them, Hicham Belkssir and Nicolas Paulus clinched the 1-0 lead for the Owls at the first flight, 6-3.
In singles, The Owls took four of their six flights, with three straight-set victories (Belkssir at the third flight, 7-6, 6-4, Stipcic at the fourth spot, 6-3, 6-4, and Vineet Naran at the fifth flight, 6-3, 6-2). Paulus fought a hard battle at the second flight, but ultimately took the set 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.
