Alliya Butts Named American Freshman of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Temple women's basketball player Alliya Butts was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for the period ending February 15. This is the second Freshman of the Week award for her this season.
Butts averaged 19.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Owls. On Tuesday at Tulsa, she led the Owls with 17 points and a pair of steals in a loss to Tulsa. On Saturday, Butts scored a game-high 22 points with a career-best six assists in a win against Houston. For the week, she also averaged 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals, while going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
Butts leads Temple in scoring this season, averaging 13.0 points per game, with a team-high 54 steals. She is also third on the team with 55 total assists, and has scored in double-figures in 11 of 13 conference games for Temple this season.
The Owls (12-14, 8-5 American) are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Tulane (19-6, 10-4) at 7 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. The game will serve as a breast cancer fundraiser to benefit the Play4Kay foundation.
