Five Nationally Ranked Teams Will Compete at the Temple Fencing Invitational on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Among the lineup of schools set to compete in the Temple Fencing Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 21 are five nationally ranked programs. The 10th-ranked Owls will celebrate Senior Day prior to the start of Saturday's meet, honoring their senior and team captain Lauren Rangel-Friedman.
After the Senior Day celebration at 8:45 a.m., the meet will officially begin at 9:00 a.m. For the full schedule, see below. Six men's programs and five women's programs will be in action at McGonigle Hall on Saturday, with Temple set to face #3 Princeton, #6 Penn State, #8 Penn, #9 St. John's and Brown.
Temple comes into Saturday's meet with an overall record of 23-8. The Owls are 1-1 against #8 Penn after facing the Quakers twice already this season, and they are 0-1 against both #3 Princeton and #6 Penn State.
Senior Day
Lauren Rangel-Friedman is an environmental studies major from Laguna Niguel, California. This year, Lauren serves as both the sabre squad captain and the overall team captain. As a freshman, Lauren went undefeated 11 times and finished with 29 victories overall. In her sophomore year, Lauren placed 12th at the Junior Olympics and 14th at the NCAA Regional meet. She earned another top 15 finish as a junior at the NCAA Regional, advancing to the semifinals and placing 13th. Lauren finished with a record of 39-15 last season, including a perfect 7-0 record at the Philadelphia Invitational and an 8-1 record at the Duke Invitational. Her senior season started off strong when she tied for third place at the Temple Open, and she recently finished with an impressive record of 20-11 at the Northwestern Duals. Coming into Saturday's meet, Lauren's overall career record is 138-83.
