2.19.15 | Women's Gymnastics

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Temple women's gymnastics stays close to home for the third weekend in a row this Saturday as they travel to Ursinus for a dual meet set to begin at 1 p.m. Coming off their second consecutive weekend with a team score above 191, the Owls look to continue topping season high scores for both individual events and overall team scores.

At last weekend's home meet, where the Owls hosted Bridgeport and West Chester, the team posted an overall score of 191.7 to come in second behind Bridgeport's 194.375. The team posted their highest event totals on both vault and floor, with a 48.05 on the vault and a 48.525 on the floor.

Numerous season-highs were once again set by individual Owls.  Jasmine Johnson posted a 9.825 on the floor, her best mark for the 2015 season. Also on the floor exercise freshman Kerry Arone earned a 9.65 to garner another season high for the Owls.

On the vault Gina Tucker and Lauren Capone both posted season highs on the event, with Tucker scoring a 9.575 and Capone with a 9.75. Capone also tallied her season high all-around score of 38.225 for all four events.

Sophomore Briana Odom continued the streak of individual season highs with her 9.775 beam score, which is also the highest beam score of her career.

Now midway through the regular season, the Owls look to improve on their current team average of 189.575. Currently, there are four gymnasts ranked in the top 10 on individual events within the ECAC Conference: Odom on the vault, Alexis Arena on beam, and Stephanie Verry and Alexandra Forcucci on floor.

The Ursinus Bears have had a record breaking season in 2015, posting a season high team score of 190.475, which is the highest in program history. Junior Kristina Steffenhagan has posted scores above 9.75 on vault, beam, and floor, with a season high of 9.85 on the floor set at the last dual meet against the Owls in January.  Freshman Kaelin Ruoss is the only all-around competitor for the Bears. Ruoss has posted a season high all-around score of 38.075 with individual highs on vault, beam, and floor all being above a 9.6.
