Men's Tennis Defeats Wright State, 4-3

DAYTON, Ohio – The men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Wright State on Saturday, February 21 to split their weekend matches.
Head coach Steve Mauro was very pleased with the way the team came out and played to ultimately claimed the win.
"I was really happy with the guys bounced back after losing a close match to Dayton yesterday. They fought hard today and really wanted to get a win against a good Wright State team," said Mauro. "I was really happy that the guys came out fired up in doubles and showed a strong effort in singles."
Doubles play started off with a 6-2 victory at the third flight for Wright State's Dan Gilbert and Myles Harris, as they defeated Ian Glessing and Filip Stipcic. Temple's Vineet Naran and Santiago Canete answered back, as they took down the Raiders' Aaron Madaris and Diego Venegas at the second flight, 6-3. Nicolas Paulus and Hicham Belkssir were able clinch the point for the Owls on a 7-6(5) victory at the first flight.
In singles, Wright State was quick to tie things up, as Gilbert defeated Belkssir at the third flight, 6-2, 6-1. However, the Owls would take a 3-1 lead, as Paulus took down Marc Sodini at the second flight, 6-0, 6-1, and Glessing picked up his first singles victory as an Owl with a 6-2, 7-6(5) victory at the sixth flight against Venegas.
Mauro was "really happy" for the Scottsdale, Ariz. native to pick up his first win for the Cherry and White; Glessing transferred in this year from Arizona Christian University.
Wright State came back to make the score 3-2, when Andrew Connolly defeated Stipcic, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 at the fourth flight. However, Canete took the first flight, 6-2, 7-5 over the Pineda to give the owls the 4-2 lead and the victory.
The Owls (5-4) will next travel to American Athletic Conference member Memphis on February 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. CT.
