Women's Gymnastics Places Fourth at Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Temple women's gymnastics placed fourth in a dual meet at Pittsburgh with its third best team score (191.225) of the season on Saturday night at Fitzgerald Field House. West Virginia won the meet with a team score of 194.975, and Pitt (194.875) placed second followed by UNC (193.5).
The Owls started the meet on bars where they earned a team score of 46.775. Briana Odom led the Owls on the event with a 9.5, and Alexis Arena was right behind her with a 9.45.
Temple then moved onto beam. Arena's 9.625 led the Owls to garner a 47.7 on the event. Michaela Lapent's routine garnered her a 9.575. Gina Tucker, Stephanie Verry and Odom all got a 9.5 on beam.
The Owls best event came on the next rotation on floors. Temple got a team score of 48.75, its best score on any event this season. All six gymnasts got at least a 9.6. Lauren Capone and Lapent both had routines that earned them the team's top score of 9.8 on any event and set season-highs on floor this season. Verry garnered a 9.75 to end the event. Jasmine Johnson was right behind with a 9.725. Kerry Arone set her career high on floor with a 9.675.
The meet ended on vault for Temple. The Owls earned a team score of 48, just 0.05 off their season high on vault. Odom set her season-high with a 9.75. Capone garnered a 9.7. Victoria Reggiani (9.575) and Tucker (9.55) both got above a 9.5 on the event.
Temple will stay on the road and face ECAC member Cornell next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
