Women's Gymnastics Finished Fifth in ECAC Conference Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Temple women's gymnastics placed fifth in the ECAC Championships hosted by Yale with a team score of 192.075 on Saturday afternoon. William and Mary won conference championship with a team score of 194.375, while Brown (194.15) finished second, Yale (193.575) third, Penn (192.8) fourth, and Cornell (191.225) was last.
The Owls opened up the meet on bars with an event score of 47.4. Kerry Arone was the top performer for Temple with a 9.7, earning her a medal with an overall sixth place in the event. Victoria Reggiani was right behind her with a 9.65, and Hannah Popper got a 9.6 for a season-high.
The second event for Temple was beam, where the Owls got a 47.525. Michaela Lapent had the top score for Temple with a season-high 9.775. Stephanie Verry garnered a season-high 9.675, and Arone's routine earned her a 9.65, setting a career-high.
Temple's best event of the meet was floor with a team score of 48.725. Lauren Capone routine earned her a third place medal with a 9.85. Alexandra Forcucci, Verry and Lapent all garnered a 9.725 with their routines. Arone rounded out the scoring with a career-high 9.7.
The last event of the meet for Temple was vault, where the Owls posted an event score of 48.425. Both Jasmine Johnson and Capone earned a medal on the event with a 9.775 that was the fourth best scores of the event. Capone finished her career with four ECAC medals while Johnson finishes with three. Johnson has won the floor title twice, her freshman and junior years. Capone also earned two medals on floor, a third place medal last year and fourth in 2013. Alexis Arena finished with a 9.65. Reggiani earned a 9.625, and Briana Odom rounded out the scoring with a 9.6.
After the meet Assistant Coach Deirdre Mattocks Bertotti was named ECAC Assistant Coach of the Year. Bertotti has been an assistant coach at her alma mater for three seasons.
